Lisbon unveils new pavement pattern
With this addition, the city now counts 13, and the pattern may soon appear on public streets.
Lisbon has added a new design to its renowned artistic pavements.
The Escola de Calceteiros (School of Pavers), run by Lisbon City Council, revealed the “632 Symmetry Pattern,” the 13th type of decorative stone pavement now recognized in the city.
Conceived by trainer Nuno Serra and executed by paver Manuel Reis, the pattern was created as part of the first official process to recognize and certify professional skills in the craft of paving, coordinated by the council’s Qualifica Center.
PThe design, one of five rotational symmetries not previously represented in Lisbon’s pavements, was officially approved on July 10 by José Francisco Rodrigues, president of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, who praised it for its “aesthetic merit.”
Lisbon currently features 12 of Portugal’s 17 traditional pavement designs.
With this addition, the city now counts 13, and the pattern may soon appear on public streets.
For now, it can be admired at the Escola de Calceteiros, located at Quinta Conde dos Arcos in Olivais.
